I have practiced law since 1976 after graduating with honors from New York University School of Law, where I was the Managing Editor of the N.Y.U. Law Review. Thereafter I served for two years as a law clerk to Judge William J. Bauer of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in Chicago.  Following my tenure with Judge Bauer, I had the rare privilege of serving as a law clerk to Chief Justice Warren E. Burger of the Supreme Court of the United States.

When my clerkship with the Chief Justice ended, I joined the Chicago law firm of Rothschild, Barry & Myers, where I remained until starting my own practice in August of 2003.  At RB&M, I was primarily engaged in complex civil litigation matters, though I also served for many years as general counsel of a north suburban mass transit agency and as co-counsel for a local Teamsters pension fund.

As the years passed,  I grew weary of the stress of complex civil litigation and developed an interest in helping homeowners and businesses reduce the burden of their property taxes, a practice area RB&M did not wish to pursue. Accordingly, I struck out on my own and have been almost exclusively engaged in the property tax field since 2003.  To better serve my clients, my main office in Chicago is located right across the street from the offices of the Cook County Assessor and the Board of Review, the two county agencies which establish the assessment levels used to calculate property tax bills. But I also have a satellite office in Oak Park. In my nine years in this field, I have encountered almost every type of property tax problem that can arise, and I pursue property tax appeals at the state as well as the county level. Historically, I have won over 80% of my cases.

On a more personal note, I lived in Oak Park for over 40 years but now reside in a condo in the Chicago Loop near my law office. I have two sons and two daughters. I grew up in a large family in the upstate NY community of Binghamton. I attended a high school seminary in Monroe, Virgina, outside of Lynchburg, from which I graduated in 1966. I received my undergraduate degree from Loyola University of Chicago with a major in political science in 1970. Before entering law school, I served on the legislative staff of the President of the Illinois State Senate for three years and earned a graduate degree from the University of Illinois-Springfield in 1972.
